Call for Proposals DOST-JSPS Joint Research Project

The DOST-JSPS Joint Research Project is a bilateral exchange project jointly conducted by Filipino and Japanese researchers in accordance with their mutual agreement on international scientific collaboration.

It has the following objectives:

  1. To contribute to scientific advancement by conducting bilateral research (including seminars) in a specific research field; and
  2. To provide opportunities for young researchers of Japan and the Philippines to meet, interact, and exchange ideas to build a robust S&T community in the region.

Filipino proponents must submit their proposal online through the DOST Project Management Information System (DPMIS) on or before the closing date on 3 September 2024, 5:00 PM.

Call for Proposals for the 2023 Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Research Agenda – Batch 2 and 2024 HTA Research Agenda – Batch 1

The priority topics include the following projects:

Health Technology Assessment of the following HTA priority topics for Inclusion in the Philippine National Formulary:

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: UK RESEARCH AND INNOVATION – SOUTHEAST ASIA COLLABORATION ON INFECTIOUS DISEASES

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) – Southeast Asia Collaboration on Infectious Diseases funding call is now open for submission to interested researchers.

This funding opportunity aims to:

  1. Fund collaborative projects involving the UK and one or more partner countries to address the challenges of AMR and pathogens with epidemic potential of relevance to Southeast Asia;
  2. Enhance existing and develop new sustainable partnerships between the UK and Southeast Asia research partners; and
  3. Strengthen research capacity in the Southeast Asia region through supporting long-term research relationships.

This collaboration is led by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in partnership with seven Southeast Asian countries including the Philippines through the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD).

DOST-PCHRD will also be providing the funding counterpart for successfully selected proposals involving Filipino researchers and institutions.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR PCIEERD BALIK SCIENTISTS PROGRAM RESEARCH GRANT- FOR 2024 FUNDING

We are pleased to announce that the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging
Technology (DOST-PCIEERD) is opening a call for proposals for the PCIEERD Balik Scientist Program Research Grant.

The Balik Scientist Program (BSP) aims to promote science and technology information
exchange and accelerate the flow of new and critical research and development into the
country by inviting Filipino (or of Filipino descent) experts abroad to lend their
knowledge and skills locally. The objective of this program is to strengthen and increase
the scientific and technological manpower of the academe, government, and other
private institutions throughout the country thereby spurring national progress.


To complement the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)’s current efforts of
inviting potential Balik Scientists, the Philippine Council of Industry, Energy, and
Emerging Technology Research Division (PCIEERD) is opening its doors to new and
ongoing Medium and Longterm PCIEERD Balik Scientists to submit an R&D proposal
based on their current engagement and/or addressing a pressing industry, energy, and
emerging technology (IEET) concerns.


This call for proposal is seeking Balik Scientists to usher in new perspectives,
technologies, and solutions on IEET topics—power and energy, food security, clean
water and sanitation, carbon neutrality and circular economy, blue economy and
maritime, transportation and logistics, and modern materials and methods for industry
advancement and entrepreneurship. Alternatively, a host institution may seek to engage
a Balik Scientist to improve their science and technology endeavors in these areas and
may actively present an R&D proposal with an already identified Balik Scientist and
submit it to this call.

1st Call for Thesis/Research Proposals for Funding by the NIH Student Research Grant 2024

We are pleased to announce that the Office of the Executive Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is now accepting first (1st) batch of applications for the NIH Student Research Grant for CY 2024. This grant provides funding support for thesis/research projects of UP Manila undergraduate, masteral, PhD, and medical students.


A research grant of up to P100,000.00 each shall be given to deserving research projects to subsidize expenses for maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) only. The proposals shall be evaluated based on relevance and scientific merit, subject to appropriate ethical clearance. The thesis/research adviser should endorse the application and will be responsible for financial disbursements and liquidation of funds. Successful applicants are strongly encouraged to publish their results in reputable peer-reviewed journals, and are required to submit to NIH their manuscript in a publishable format ready for submission. Kindly submit electronic copies of the following requirements on or before 31 January 2024:

  1. Word file and pdf of the full thesis/research proposal
    Note: Please include Line-Item Budget (LIB) and Work Plan/Gantt chart of activities in your thesis/research proposal. All annexes (e.g. ICFs, interview questions, etc.) should be attached to the proposal and not be submitted as separate files.

Background

The Philippines remains to be a developing nation with numerous economic, social, environmental and governance problems, NRCP believes that investments in basic research should yield knowledge needed by society to meet the challenges it faces, identify the solutions to common problems, and develop the opportunities that make the lives of people better. Basic research should yield knowledge that informs the support of individual and collective actions to improve human well-being and address pressing societal problems. Therefore, despite the true nature of basic researches as investigations into the mostly raw ideas, with and without potentials for immediate applications, the following NIBRA priorities considers the following general themes – water scarcity, food security, increased demand for clean energy, increasing diseases and hazards, high population displacement and urban decay, widespread poverty and social conflict, Filipino identity and Climate Change. Further, all projects and programs for Council support will be aligned to the Philippines Sustainable Development Goals such as zero hunger, good health and well-being, gender equality, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable & clean energy, sustainable cities & communities and peace, justice and strong institutions.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (ADDITIONAL)

  1. General Criteria:
    1. Project/Program proposals must be aligned to issue-based programs under the National Integrated Research Agenda (NIBRA) under the DOST Harmonized R & D Agenda
    2. Project/Program proposals must be gender-sensitive or with GAD components.
    3. Project Leader must be an NRCP member
    4. With application form and Curriculum Vitae of the project leader
    5. Endorsement from institution (President or Vice President of R & D)
    6. The program or project leader has no outstanding obligations (i.e.,technical and/or financial) with NRCP or with any other attached DOST agencies.
  2. Proposal submission, evaluation and approval:
    1. Detailed program/project proposal should be in the DOST Format
    2. Proposals shall be evaluated following the DOST-GIA process
    3. The Program Leader must be a REGULAR member of NRCP. ASSOCIATE members can only apply and/or be granted for a research project proposal amounting to a maximum of PhP 2,000,000.00 Budget per project per year.
    4. Preferably, program and component projects should be 2-3 years in duration.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR THE PCIEERD HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (HRDP) – FOR 2024 FUNDING

In the interest of fully complementing the human resources and institution needs and requirements of the industry, energy, and emerging technology research and development sectors, making the opportunity available to the great majority, PCIEERD implements the Human Resources Development Program which aims to:

a.) Develop and enhance Filipino research and development (R&D) capabilities of academic/research institutions and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) agencies through degree programs, conduct of research activities, and expert mobility in the industry, energy and emerging technology sectors in order to meet the present and future human resource requirements; and

b.) encourage Filipino researchers to be more productive researchers by providing support for disseminating their research outputs in the industry, energy and emerging technology sectors in local and international conferences, fora and similar events.

This covers support to researchers, faculty, and other S&T personnel of academic and research institutions for presentation of research results in refereed scientific/technical conferences, fora, seminars, trainings and workshops.

Publication of Scientific/Research Papers in Scientific/Technical Journals –

This covers support to researchers, faculty, and other S&T personnel of academic and research institutions for the publication of research results in refereed scientific/technical journals and related publications. Conduct of Conferences, Seminars and Workshops –

This covers support for technical conferences, seminars and workshops aimed at promotion and dissemination of research outputs in PCIEERD’s identified R&D priority areas. Research Fellowship

Visiting Expert Program –

This is open to institutions needing faculty/experts from another institution who possess the required expertise not available in the host/requesting institution.

Research Attachment –

This is open to BS, MS and PhD students or degree holders, or existing project staff or researcher of an ongoing PCIEERD-funded or -monitored project, in the science and engineering sectors, who need to conduct their research in a host institution, including foreign universities and research institutions to avail of the host institution’s facilities and research expertise.

Opening Opportunities for Learning (RIEETOOL) –

This covers support for development of skills and knowledge aligned with the PCIEERD priority sectors.

This is open to

a) researchers, scientists and engineers (RSEs) from academic and research institutions for attendance to specialized training; and

b) academic or research institutions for conduct of specialized training.

Providing Resources, Opportunities and Support for Project-based PErsonnel and Researchers (PROSPPER) –

This covers assistance for graduate scholarship of project personnel for PCIEERD-funded and monitored projects for the conduct and completion of their graduate degrees while gaining research experience in the said project/s.

DOST FLAG –

This is open to BS and graduate (MS/PHD) students who will conduct research projects directed towards developing emerging technologies and exploring innovations in the PCIEERD sectoral priority areas such as, but not limited to, materials research, electronics and applied physics. The grant is an outright research subsidy which will finance expenses for testing and analysis fees specifically in the use of any of the equipment in the identified DOST- and DOST-funded facilities, centers and laboratories, e.g. ADMATEL, EPDC, etc.

Call for Full Proposals for Funding by the NIH Faculty and REPS Research Grant 2024

We are pleased to announce that research proposals for funding for fiscal year 2024 are now being accepted by the Office of the Executive Director, National Institutes of Health. A research grant of up to P500,000.00 each shall be given to deserving research projects to fund Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE). The proposals shall be evaluated based on relevance and scientific merit subject to appropriate ethical clearance.

The priority areas for research are based on the NUHRA 2017-2022, as follows:

  1. Responsive health systems: health governance, health financing, access to essential medical products/vaccines and technologies, health information systems, health service delivery, health human resources, health economics, health research management;
  2. Research to enhance and extend health lives: adolescent health, communicable diseases, environmental health, maternal, newborn and child health, mental health, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, oral health, reproductive health;
  3. Holistic approaches to health and wellness: Filipino traditional and complementary medicine, determinants of health, halal in health, health behaviors;
  4. Health resiliency: accidents and injuries, climate change, disaster risk reduction and health emergencies, emerging and re-emerging diseases, environmental threats to health, occupational health and migration;
  5. Global competitiveness and innovation in health: diagnostics, drug discovery and development, functional foods, information and communication technologies for health, biomedical products and engineering, OMIC technologies; and
  6. Research in equity and health: disability, gender, geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, geriatric case, HIV/AIDS and other STIs, indigenous peoples, substance abuse, violence, other vulnerable populations.

The research proposals from these projects should aim for publication in an ISI or peer-reviewed journal. In addition, proposals from researchers with outstanding obligations related to their previous NIH research projects will not be accepted.
