Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs International Publication Award for Journal Articles:
Eligibility:
- Regular faculty, including those on sabbatical and secondment to other agencies, REPS in active service, clinical faculty, emeritus professors and students are eligible for the award.
- A UP unit (institute, department, center, etc.) indicated as the affiliate institution of the author(s) shall receive an IPA apart from the IPA for authors.
Scope of Award
All journals indexed in:
- Scopus
- Thomson Reuters Web of Science (formerly ISI) core collection
- Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)
- Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)
- Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI)
- Conference Proceedings Citation Index
Value of Award
- For articles published in journals indexed in SCIE, AHCI, SSCI, and CPCI with no impact factor or in Scopus-listed journals, the maximum amount of the IPA shall be P55,000.
- Articles published in journals indexed in SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI with impact factor (IF) will be given the following IPA monetary award:
- articles published in journals indexed in SCIE, SSCI, AHCI, and CPCIwith multiple authors, the UP-affiliated corresponding authors of the publications will receive a monetary award in addition to their share of the IPA as follows:
- In case of co-authorship, the award shall be divided equally among the number of authors, local and foreign. Only UP-affiliated authors eligible for the award shall receive it, provided the article is published while they are on active service or before their retirement or resignation from the University. Each UP-affiliated author (i.e. affiliated with the University AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION as an enrolled
student or a faculty member with an appointment) will receive a share of the IPA equal to P55,000, P65,000, P80,000, P100,000, P125,000, or P155,000, as applicable, divided by the total number of authors. - The IPA per publication for UP units is P15,000. Each UP affiliate unit will receive a prorated share of the IPA equal to P15,000 multiplied by the number of authors affiliated with the UP unit divided by the total number of authors.

- Note: There should only be one application form for publications with multiple authors coming from various CUs. Must be signed by the unit/department and verified by OVCRD of the designated author/ applicant.

- Copy of the journal article
- Proof of the author’s UP affiliation covering the IPA application date
- the only accepted proofs of UP affiliation are as follows:
- Notice of Temporary or Permanent Appointment for UP-employed authors
- Job Contract or Contract of Service for UP-affiliated but non-UP-employed authors
- Form 5 for undergraduate or graduate students
- Note: Faculty/Student IDs are not acceptable

Application Process:
- RGAO registration
- Kindly register the study protocol where the publication is derived through this link RGAO Registration Form.
- Fill out the online form through this link International Publication Award (IPA) Application. The pre-filled application forms will be sent to you for review and corrections.
- The applicant will sign the pre-filled application forms and have them endorsed by the Department Chair/Institute Director (whichever is applicable).
- The applicant will forward the signed application form to RGAO.
- RGAO will forward the application form to OVCR for a second endorsement.
- RGAO will submit the duly endorsed form to the OVPAA IPA portal and notify the applicant of the submission.
- RGAO will notify the author once the monetary award is deposited into his/her account.
Public dissemination of UP’s international publications
- The abstracts of all IPA publications will be posted on the OVPAA website (ovpaa.up.edu.ph).
- The author(s) is/are required to submit a popular article about the publication. The popular article (laymanized description of the research) will be featured on the OVPAA website and used as part of UP’s accomplishments for public dissemination.
Effectivity
- The amounts mentioned above (refer to Items 4.1 to 4.4 of the International Publication Award for Journal Articles Guidelines) are applicable to journal articles published from 1 August 2018 onwards.
Award Release
- NO checks will be issued as the grant will be directly credited to the grantee’s account. The currency of funds to be given will be in Philippine Peso, 100% upon approval.
Please note: Only refereed, full scientific and research papers are accepted for IPA. Editorials, short notes, commentaries, book reviews, etc. are not eligible for the award
